Wine List: Arsenic Concern

This week, over 28 wineries were accused of having a high level of arsenic in their wine. We see a lot of this in rice, seafood and other products. Most of us are drinking a few glasses of wine socially but if you're consuming a lot of wine per day, this could become a problem long term.

Researchers and other medical authorities have expressed concern over long term exposure to arsenic potentially causing cancer (particularly bladder or lung cancer) and diabetes. 

Samadi's Take

I wouldn't worry too much about this. If you are consuming a bottle of wine per day or other extreme amounts then this could become a problem. But arsenic is in our soil and even through water filtration processes, we still can't completely get away from it.

Invest In Your Wine

Whats interesting about this current lawsuit is they evaluated over 1300 bottles of wine and consistently the cheaper the wine, the higher levels of arsenic. It's still important to look for quality wines. Cheaper wines also have other fillers in them that we've spoken about.
