5 Food Ideas for Glowing Skin

Experts on caring for your skin usually categorized skin types to oily, dry or a combination. If you're aware of what your skin that's great. Many people are not. We all want to bask in the fountain of youth for as long as we can, but both men and women shouldn't resort to anti-aging products as the first line of defense. The skin care industry generates $2 billion each year but it's important to design your routine, personalized to you. Dry, oily, acne and more, caring for your skin needs to be based on your skin type.

What if you never had to use bronzer again?  What if we told you all you needed was to modify what you ate?  With so many great products out there, it is easy to forget that the food we put into our bodies is still the best way to get great skin.  That healthy glow is what we are looking for.

1. STRAWBERRIES:

These red berries are high in vitamin C, a great antioxidant for beautiful skin.   Vitamin C fights dryness and wrinkles in the skin, while protecting the skin’s natural elasticity.  Maintaining elasticity will keep skin from sagging and looking, well… old. The antioxidant also boosts collagen production which will promote that youthful glow we are all looking for.

2. KALE/MANGO/PARSLEY SMOOTHIE:

Leafy greens are also rich in carotenoids.  One cup of kale has about 10x the minimum recommended daily value.  Unless you are taking supplements, don’t worry about getting too much of this vitamin from regular foods.  If you are taking Vitamin A supplements, talk to your doctor about how much is too much, or if you should be avoiding certain foods in your diet.

3. CANTALOUPE/YOGURT SMOOTHIE:

Cantaloupe contains both beta and alpha-carotenes, which we could have guessed by its bright peachy hue.  2 cups of cantaloupe contains about 6mg of beta-carotene, which is a sizable amount for only a few cups.   With yogurt in the mix, you will get all the benefits vitamin A has to offer.

4. TOMATOES:

The antioxidant lycopene found in tomatoes keeps your skin protected from sunburn.  Sunburn leads to premature aging, wrinkles, and dullness of the skin.  Tomatoes therefore are like nature’s sunblock - think about fighting red with red.  Lycopene also boosts the skin’s collagen according to certain studies, which will help you fight wrinkles and retain that youthful appearance.

5. OYSTERS:

Oysters have tons of nutritional benefits, among them that they are a great source of vitamins and minerals.  They are high in zinc, protein, iron, omega 3 fatty acids, calcium and vitamin C.  All these play their role in aiding in skin health and luminosity.   Omega 3s in particular plump up the skin’s fat cells, fighting wrinkles and making the skin look younger.  The zinc in oysters on the other hand helps keep skin healthy, clear, and calm with its strong antimicrobial and immunity boosting properties.
