Common Vaginal Issues Solutions

There are many vaginal issues that can affect women, but it can be embarrassing to talk about it openly.  Many issues are more common than you think, but it is good to know if you should be consulting a physician or something you can handle on your own.  Here is a rundown of some common conditions, from itching to unsightly bumps, and what to do if you are suffering from one of them.

Bleeding between your Period:

All women are used to bleeding during that time of the month, but what if you are spotting or bleeding between periods?  This might indicate for a hormonal imbalance, an issue with birth control, an infection, or even a pregnancy.  If spotting is persistent, and not just a onetime event, then it is prudent to notify your doctor of the issue and evaluate through further testing.

Itching, Down There

Persistent or recurrent itching in your nether-parts can indicate for infection like a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis.  This is especially true if there is discharge accompanying the itch.  If it is not due to an infection, try changing your soaps and detergent to something that is hypoallergenic, as it could be a reaction to a chemical or fragrance in the products you are using.

Vaginal Discharge

Most women have some type of normal discharge, but if this discharge is accompanied by a funky odor, color, or consistency then there may be cause to worry.  Typically, a normal discharge is lightly opaque to clear with minimal odor and a non-viscous consistency.  An unusual discharge can indicate for many different issues, so if notice a change from the norm then you should follow up with your doctor.

Unusual Odor

As mentioned, an unusual odor usually means something is up and can be associated with itching or discharge.  Because there are so many different types of causes for an unusual or foul-smeeling odor, it is best to consult your doctor right away.   It could be a bacterial infection like bacterial vaginosis or trichomoniasis, in which antibiotics would be necessary in order to treat effectively.  Furthermore, the smell could be due to a tampon or condom that has gotten stuck in the vaginal canal that will need the aid of the doctor to remove.

Bump on or near the genitals

Bumps or lumps can be something as simple as an ingrown hair or cyst in the hair follicle or sebaceous gland.  This is easily resolved through a warm soak or hydrocortisone cream to reduce any swelling.  If the issue persists, is uncomfortable, or bumps are filled with pus, check with your doctor to make sure it is not an infection.

Pain during urination or sex

Pain could be due to a urinary tract infection or because of a sexually transmitted disease.  If this pain is persistent then it will likely be necessary to evaluate the condition with a physician.  The pain could also be temporary caused by sex that was too dry or too rough.  This discomfort will go away on its own.
