An iPhone App to Track Your Sex Life?

We've spoke about the health benefits of sex before. Sex makes us happy, helps relieve stress, get better sleep, lowers blood pressure, increases mental clarity and can even improve female bladder control. It triggers the body to release its natural feel-good chemicals like endorphins, serotonin and oxytocin.

But now Apple has announced that the iPhone suite of health apps in its "Health Kit" will not include an app for tracking your sex life. Will this help you be more mindful of your sex life?

The interesting part is information about your sex life would be integrated with other measurements Health Kit offers such as the date of a woman's last menstrual period (for obvious reasons would be useful). The sexual activity tracking feature would be part of a new "reproductive health" section. Users would be able to log the day and time they had sex and whether they used protection.

Experts are unsure of the health benefits and  say if people actually wanted to use the data to improve their sexual health, they would need more information as far as tracking partners for STD prevention, but could raise privacy concerns. But this information could help researchers track outbreaks of STDs understanding whether a person traveled to another country. The issue of privacy is very much intertwined in many of the health technology and implications that come along with Health Kit and the Apple Watch.

Some experts are saying it could be useful depending on what people actually want to use it for. For those wanting to get pregnant, it could provide usefulness. The app will also allow users to track menstrual cycles, ovulation test results, and cervical mucus quality which are all factors that can help a woman know whether she's more likely to get pregnant.

This is an interesting and new approach to sexual health. It'll be interesting to see how users react and if they actually use it. Studies will need to be conducted.
