Erectile dysfunction: is it just your sex life that hurts?

Erectile dysfunction is the inability to achieve or maintain an erection suitable for sexual intercourse. There are several causes to erectile dysfunction. Although the most common cause of erectile dysfunction is a recent stress in your life or a conflict in your relationship, it is not always the case. Medications, chronic diseases and too much alcohol can all lower your ability to achieve an erection. But not having a good erection is not just a bad news to your sex life. A new study from The University of Mississippi just could show that men with erectile dysfunction have up to 70% increased risk for premature deaths.

Cardiovascular diseases are the most common not psychological cause of erectile dysfunction. So if you are unable get an erection or maintain it for a while, it could be an early sign that your heart needs to be checked. In fact, many men whose erectile dysfunction is caused by poor cardiovascular health can end up with serious heart problems like a heart attack in near future. The penis receives it blood supply via narrow 1 to 2 millimeters vessels. The small diameter of these vessels put them at great risk to occlude easily. The same process happens in the vessels that carry blood to the heart muscle, though these vessels are much more dilate and take more time to get clogged partially or fully. Accordingly if a cholesterol plaque formation begins in your vessels either because of the fatty fast foods, low activity or smoking or just as an inevitable process of aging, your penis might be the first part of the body that suffers from it by not making good erections. If the process is continued other larger vessel can be involved as well.

Having an erection trouble once in a while is not a concern at all but if it continues to happen frequency and persistently, you might consider seeking a doctor help. Talking about erectile dysfunction might seems embracing for you, but nothing worth hiding when it comes to your life.
