Mediterranean Diet: Optimal For Healthy Eating

A new report from the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee the American diet is having devastating effects on with about two-thirds of Americans being obese or overweight.

The best solution to fight this is to commit to a Mediterranean diet. "Stop eating so much meat." "Eat more fruits and vegetables." We've been hearing this a lot and I agree with it.

A Mediterranean diet is the optimal way to eat healthy. Load up on plant based foods - the more fruits and vegetables, the better.

Obviously, once in awhile enjoying a hamburger or piece of cake is not really going to hurt you. Moderation is key. But studies have shown us time and again that plant-based foods, 3-4 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, is absolutely the way to go. We know it reduces inflammation and the risk of cancer among other diseases.

There are many health benefits to drinking coffee - Studies have shown it to reduce the risk of diabetes, Alzheimer's, dementia and some cancers.

Coffee is also important to add to your diet. 3-4 cups of coffee per day has been shown to reduce the risk of dementia, diabetes and some cancers. Limit or omit adding milk and sugar or try it black.

Another astounding statistic is about 117 million Americans have preventable chronic diseases. This is directly related to the way we're eating.
