More Water Can Help You Lose Weight
/Most people would likely feel that they could stand to lose a few pounds. Some have even struggled with weight loss their entire life. One of the major reasons people as a whole struggle with weight loss is a busy lifestyle, where they find they cannot commit to better, healthier habits. For most, this takes great discipline. There are tons of weight loss strategies and trends from intermittent fasting and HIIT training, to juicing and detoxing for losing weight. But what, if anything actually works aside from the right combination of diet and exercise? Well, one new study might have the answer, and it’s a simple one.
Water. According to the University of Birmingham, drinking two glasses of water before your three major meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner, can help you lose up to 10 pounds in about 12 weeks. The study was published in the journal Obesity, and analyzed the daily habits of 84 obese people. Half of the study group was instructed to drink water before meals, while the other half did not. On average, those who drank water before meals lost 9.48 pounds throughout the experiment, without really changing their eating and exercise habits. These results could point to an even easy way to lose weight than before. Additionally, it might be easier for people with busy lives to incorporate more water into their daily lives.
Past studies have also pointed to water as a great way to lose weight. In a German study, researchers found that, after drinking about 17 ounces of water, study subjects' metabolic rates increased by about 30 percent. The effects were quick and relatively long-lasting. The rise occurred within 10 minutes of drinking the water and lasted for up to 40 minutes. Based on their findings, the researchers estimate that increasing your water consumption by 1.5 liters a day could burn an extra 17,400 calories in a year.
