Adults Found Abusing ADHD Medication

A recent report has shown that many office workers in the United States are abusing various amphetamine-based stimulant drugs, which are prescribed for ADHD patients, to boost work performance or productivity.

Adderall, Concerta and Vyvanse are some common stimulants that these workers are using to improve productivity.

Misuse of these drugs can cause many side effects:

  • addiction
  • anxiety
  • hallucination if taken in high doses

This issue is more concerning than it seems. The findings reveal that many users get their hands on these ADHD pills through illegal sources, or by ‘pretending’ to have the symptoms of the disease to obtain a prescription.

This new report also points out that using these stimulants is increased more and more among 18-34 year olds.

The abuse of Adderall in particular is concerning as it has become more common in college students in the recent years.

“Given the increase in rates of abuse in college students over the last decade, it is essential that we understand the outcomes as they leave college and assume adult roles,” researchers said.

Many users believe it to be a competition – if they're colleagues are using brain edhancing drugs, they too must in order to compete and keep up.

According to the New York Observer, many white collar workers are using pills known as Nootropics to boost their working capability and to stay alert during long work days.

Most of these ADHD drugs contain amino acids, caffeine and herb extracts that boost memory performance, and are available in bottles online as well.
