Magnesium Water: New Drink of Choice?
Many people have jumped on the hot water with lemon first thing in the morning bandwagon but a new drink is proving to be even better to add to your daily routine. Enter magnesium water.
What is it? Well, Magnesium helps the muscles and nerves function properly by balancing calcium in the body. 70% of American women are deficient in magnesium and don't even know it. Magnesium is available in supplement form and many people are adding it to their daily routine to restore healthy levels of magnesium.
It can help ease menstrual pain and even a hangover.
Natural Magnesium in Water
A large number of minerals contains magnesium, for example dolomite (calcium magnesium carbonate; CaMg(CO3)2) and magnesite (magnesium carbonate; MgCO3). Magnesium is washed from rocks and subsequently ends up in oceans, rivers, lakes which is then filtered into our water supply.
Magnesium health benefits:
The human body contains abuot 25g of magnesium, where 60% are present in the bones and 40% in the muscles and other tissues. It's an essential dietary mineral in humans and one of the main elements responsible for membrane function, nerve stimulant transmission, muscle contraction, protein construction an DNA replication.
Magnesium is an ingredient in many enzymes. Magnesium and calcium often perform the same functions in the body.
It is unusual to introduce legal limits for magnesium in drinking water, because there is no scientific evidence of magnesium toxicity. In other compounds, it could be harmful.
As we've talked about with, it's important not to introduce any supplement or vitamin without consulting with you doctor. But if you have any of the following issues, it might be a good idea to ask your doctor for what we call a Serum Magnesium Test. This is a basic blood test,
Your doctor might have you take supplements if you have certain conditions such as diabetes, alcoholism, or malabsorptive issues. You may also take them if you have low potassium and calcium levels in your blood.
Symptoms of magnesia deficiency initially include:
- appetite loss
- fatigue
- nausea
- vomiting
- weakness
Magnesium health benefits include:
- Reduces stress and anxiety: The central nervous system and stress hormones are balanced by magnesium. Serotonin depends on it, which is why it helps lower stress and tension.
- Improves sleep: Being deficient in magnesium disturbs your levels of melatonin, the hormone that regulates sleep. A daily dose will help with REM sleep (the deepest stage of sleep). It's also important to note the magnesium levels in the body tend to drop at night.
- Eases Menstrual Cramps: Magnesium has a profound effect on the muscles. When your deficient, the muscles will contract involuntarily, causing cramping. Adding the supplement relaxes muscles and puts a stop to cramps.
- Prevent constipation: It draws water into your colon, keeping things soft and helps eliminates toxins
- Provides balance: Magnesium reduces lactic acid, partly responsible for soreness post-exercise. It works to restore the body's pH balance.
- Strengthens bones
- Blood pressure
- Enzyme function
- Flexibility
- Remineralizes teeth
- Supports healthy immune system
- Required for producing and storing energy
