9 Apple Watch Health Apps to Achieve your Goals

The Apple Watch has taken the health world by storm, with HealthKit, ResearchKit and the hundreds of other health apps built for this special wearable tech innovation. Giving these apps for a test ride, one can quickly see that the future may be now. Here are 7 of our favorites to get you healthier.

1. Lark: Personalized Nutritional Advice

Lark is an app that uses artificial intelligence, flashing on the tiny screen of your Apple Watch a message, suggesting that you lay off the carbs for today. Speak into the Apple Watch's built-in mic about your food, sleep and exercise habits, and the app will send helpful tips back to you. Users can also log food items and talk with this “personal-coach-on-your-wrist."  An insight into the future, this could actually help us be mindful of our daily habits.

2. Fitstar Yoga

The FitStar Yoga app helps you go through a yoga routine. You can see the picture of each pose on your wrist, and also provide feedback to the watch about poses that are range from easy to more difficult.

3. Lifesum

The Lifesum app is like having a food journal on your wrist. Log important information related to your meals as well as the number of glasses of water you've drank.

4. Runkeeper

The popular Runkeeper app for iPhone also works on the Apple Watch, and allows you to see your cycling speed, running pace, elevation, calorie burn, and route distance from your wrist.

5. Green Kitchen

The Green Kitchen app is new and quickly becoming a favorite. It help you with your healthy cooking by working in tandem with your iPhone. View vegetarian recipes on your iPhone, and then use the timer on the Apple Watch to help you figure out when you should move on to the next step in the recipe. (You’ll get a notification throughout the cooking process.)

6. Human

This one tracks your activities throughout the day and pushes you to get up and move for 30 minutes every day. That’s important because while you may not be physically close to your phone all the time, you will be able to see that reminder on the watch to get up and move at least 30 minutes a day. The app automatically picks up your walks, bike rides, runs and other activities that go for a minute or more and then logs them on the app.

7. HealthTap

Tap on the app to ask questions and get answers to medical questions from 68,000 U.S. doctors while on the go. The app will also provide reminders for virtual sessions with your doctor, personal notifications and reminders to take your prescribed medications.

8. Medication Alarm

Reminds you to take your various medications throughout the day, using an infinite amount of reminders, medication and times to take. Also lets you track how many pills you have left to give you a heads up on when you need to reorder.

9. Doximity

The largest medical professional network in the U.S. is now available on Apple Watch. According to the company estimates, about half of all of America’s doctors are Doximity members. Physicians with an Apple Watch will be able to access Doximity’s free tools such as HIPPA-compliant messaging, electronic fax capabilities and reading up on curated medical news.
